IMPORTANT NOTICE
To: horse owners and trainers
Upon the recommendations of the Nevada Department of
Agriculture’s State Veterinarian, Dr. JJ. Goicoechea and the
Nevada Gaming Control Board’s State Veterinarian, Dr. Richard
Scott, all horses entered to participate at approved pari-
mutual race tracks in Nevada must first provide a negative
Piroplasmosis test. Piroplasmosis is caused by Theleria equi
and has emerged in the racing industry in recent years.
A negative cELISA test, within the last 12 months, for
Theleria equi will be required for all racehorses.
No horse will be allowed to enter unless a current health
certificate, a negative test for Equine Infectious Anemia, and
a negative test for Thelerial equi are on file with the racing
secretary.
The health certificate is valid for 30 days when it is made
by a licensed veterinarian in the state where the examination
was completed. Equine Infectious Anemia and Piroplasmos
tests are valid for twelve (12) months from the date of sample
collection.
